Boone accepting agency funding requests
by Anna Oakes
The Boone Town Council last month agreed to restore funding for outside agency grants in the town budget, allocating $100,000 to that line item.
The council voted to suspend funding for outside agencies in 2013-14 as a result of the change in local sales tax distribution, which reduced town revenue by about $2 million per year. The town had a surplus of $3.4 million in undesignated General Fund monies remaining from the 2013-14 budget, however, which the council appropriated to a number of projects, including the outside agency funding.
An Outside Agency Funding Committee reviews applications and scores them based on a process revised by the town a couple of years ago.
