Boone Bowling Center for sale
by Kellen Short
After 29 years as a family-owned and -run
destination, the Boone Bowling Center is up for sale.
Diana Perret-Gentil said she and her husband, Mario Perret-Gentil, said they decided to list the property on Boone Heights Drive for sale as they planned for retirement.
"Next year will be 30 years," she said. "It's time to relax."
Perret-Gentil said the business is still running well and helped put two children through college. In addition to serving casual bowlers, the center hosts leagues, birthday parties, Special Olympics events and Cosmic Bowling.
The 13,000-square-foot building also includes a service area, locker rooms, pro shop, arcade and snack bar.
She said she hopes the buyer will consider keeping the property's 16 bowling lanes, especially for the benefit of local seniors who won't travel elsewhere to bowl.
"That would be ideal, because it's the only one in town," she said. " ... I'd hate to see it go as a bowling center."
The next closest bowling alley is the Cardinal Lanes in West Jefferson.
The property is offered by Roger Wright of Wright Properties at an asking price of $1.8 million for the business, building and land. Buyers can purchase the business only for $749,000 or the building and land for $1.2 million.
