Bomb threats at Carter, 23 other Tennessee courthouses
by Anna Oakes
A number of media outlets reported that bomb threats on courthouses were called in to county clerk's offices in Carter County and 23 other Tennessee counties Tuesday morning.
The buildings were evacuated, but no bombs were found.
The Carter County seat is Elizabethton, Tenn. Carter County is located on the state border west of Avery County.
Courthouses in Oregon, Nebraska and Washington have been subjected to similar hoaxes this month.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Carter County borders Watauga County to the west. Both counties are located on the state line in close proximity of one another, but they do not share a border.
