Bomb threat received at Watauga Opportunities

Law enforcement officers cleared the scene of Watauga Opportunities on Greenway Road just before 5 p.m. Friday following a bomb threat at the building.
Sgt. Matt Stevens of the Boone Police Department said an employee at the office received a call from a relative, who had in turn received a call from another person making a vague threat of a bomb.
Officers are investigating the possible source of the threat but have not yet released any further information about a suspect.
A bomb squad from Wilkes County found no explosive device, he said.
The building was evacuated, and firefighters also encouraged workers in the Greenway Business Park across the street to leave their offices.
Staff of Watauga Opportunities helped their clients, many of whom rely on public transportation, to vans and AppalCART buses to leave the scene. Watauga Opportunities helps adults with physical, mental or emotional disabilities find and keep jobs in the community and at the facility itself.
Boone Fire Department, Watauga Medics and Watauga Rescue Squad blocked traffic from entering Greenway Road between Deck Hill Road and Meadowview Drive while the search of the building continued.
