Blowing Rock hires new police chief

by Jeff Eason

According to Blowing Rock Town Manager Scott Fogleman, Tony Jones has been named the town's newest police chief.

Jones, 46, was hired from a pool of 24 applicants who vied for the job after former police chief Eric Brown resigned last January.

Jones has served as the police chief for the Taylorsville Police Department in Taylorsville for the past 17 years. He will take the reins of the Blowing Rock Police Department on Tuesday, May 27.

"Tony Jones' 17 years of proven experience as a police chief in a small community along with his 20 years of teaching law enforcement classes immediately set him apart from the candidate pool," said Fogleman. "His performance during the interview process and his approaches to problem solving and customer service leadership further distinguished him as the right person to join our team here in Blowing Rock."

Born in Seaford, Del., and raised in Taylorsville, N.C., Jones became a law enforcement officer in 1988. He was promoted to chief of police in the Taylorsville Police Department in 1997.

Jones has two sons and a daughter from his first marriage and a 3-year-old daughter with his wife, Erin.

"I have always loved visiting Blowing Rock," said Jones. "I am humbled and honored to be selected for this position and I am very excited to join the Blowing Rock community."
