Bill Bailey's job is to take a stack of vision statements and help them turn into hammers, nails and bricks.

Bailey is the new director of development services for the town of Boone, arriving after a career working as a land planner and transportation planner in Florida.

Much of his work is in reviewing the town's Smart Growth strategies, comprehensive plan and land use master plan and understanding how the policies that emerged from a public process can be adapted into the various codes and ordinances.

"I think we've got a number of challenges here in the town," Bailey said.
