Badcock Home Furniture opens in Boone

Badcock Home Furniture opened its doors Thursday on N.C. 105 in Boone.
The supplier of furniture, appliances, electronics and home furnishings now occupies the building formerly home to the New River Showcase and Design Center.
Dave Gonyea, vice president of corporate stores, said the full-service furniture store was a natural fit in the area, in part due to the growth of Appalachian State University in the last decade.
"Boone has been a town that we have focused on for the past several years, but were not able to find a location" until now, said Bill Pou, executive vice president of retail operations.
The store has created eight jobs: one manager, four sales associates and three warehouse employees, Gonyea said.
The W.S. Badcock Corporation started in 1904 and today includes about 300 stores in eight states. The company opens approximately 10 to 12 new stores each year, Gonyea said.
Boone's store is different than many in that it is corporately owned, rather than individually owned, and will be managed by Terrie Wyatt.
"It is family-owned. We have multi-generational customers, so to us, it's very important that we take care of our customers," Pou said.
A grand opening celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 12.
