App Ski Mtn. to open Nov. 27, 2013

Nine of 12 slopes will be open, including two terrain parks, according to the ski resort. Ice skating also will open on a regular schedule Wednesday with three sessions beginning at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The first 100 guests at the window on opening day will receive a free ski ticket.
App Ski Mountain anticipated opening Nov. 22, but its Nov. 27 opening day is still the earliest opening date in five years, according to stats available on its website.
Last season, the mountain opened briefly from Nov. 30-Dec. 3, 2012, but didn't open in full until Dec. 22. It also experienced the shortest ski season since 2001-02, with 96 days skied.
Regionally, Beech Mountain Resort plans to open Friday.
Sugar Mountain Resort has five slopes and two lifts open as of Monday, as well as ice skating sessions at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
