Animal shelter worker charged with theft

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office has charged an employee of
the Watauga Humane Society with stealing from the organization.
On Dec. 24, 2012, the sheriff's office received a report that money and checks were taken from the shelter, located at 312 Paws Way in Boone. The approximate amount stolen was about $5,000, Capt. Dee Dee Rominger said.
On Thursday, officers arrested Christine Clarke, 44, of 143 Fawn Drive, Boone, and charged her with five counts of felony larceny by an employee, according to the sheriff's office. Clarke was issued a $20,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
