ASU's Sean Price charged with assault by strangulation

ASU wide receiver Sean Price was arrested early Sunday morning on several charges, including felony assault by strangulation, according to arrest reports.

Price, 20, of Reston, Va., was arrested on Darby Court in Boone around 1:30 a.m. Sunday by Watauga County sheriff's deputies, the report states. He allegedly grabbed another 20-year-old man by the throat and choked him.

In addition to the assault charge, Price is charged with being drunk and disruptive and resisting a public officer.

He was issued a $20,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 21. Capt. Dee Dee Rominger of the Watauga County Sheriff's Office said he was still in custody as of Monday morning.

No further information was immediately available about his arrest.

Price also has charges pending from an August incident outside a Howard Street bar. He was charged then with being drunk and disruptive and also received a citation for underage alcohol consumption, police said. He was suspended from the team at that time.

Former Appalachian State University Coach Jerry Moore also suspended Price during the 2012 season for two games due to a "violation of team rules."

On Sunday, Head Coach Scott Satterfield said Price had been dismissed from the team for repeated violation of team rules.

"No player in our program, regardless of how talented he is, is above our team, our university or our community," Satterfield said in a statement. "Repeated behavior that does not meet the high standards that we hold our student-athletes to will not be tolerated. I truly hope that Sean gets on the right track and is able to utilize the talent that he possesses in the future. I wish him nothing but the best."
