ASU student charged with second degree rape

On June 11, the Boone Police Department received a report of a sexual assault.
The victim, a 22-year-old Appalachian State University student, was assaulted by an acquaintance and the incident occurred at an off-campus location according to a release sent out by Boone Police.
According to the release, on June 20, Boone Police arrested Samuel "Sam" Wayne Luellen, 24, of Boone.
Luellen, also an Appalachian State University student, was charged with one count of felony second degree rape.
Luellen was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, where he was assigned a court date of July 30, 2014, and placed under a $125,000 secured bond.
The policy of the Watauga Democrat is to not name alleged victims of sexual assault crimes.
