ASU student arrested at DNC
by Anna Oakes
An
Appalachian State University student was among two people arrested Sunday,
Sept. 2, during a protest march in Charlotte held to coincide with the
Democratic National Convention this week.
Anna
Marie Wright, 23, of Boone, was arrested at 2:43 p.m. Sunday for wearing a mask
and carrying a concealed weapon (a knife/cutting instrument) at 4th and College
streets, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Wright
was received a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon and was
released with a written promise to appear in court.
Wright
did not respond to an emailed request for comment as of presstime.
The prohibition of wearing masks and carrying sharp objects during public demonstrations was among several changes enacted to the city of Charlotte’s ordinances in preparation for the convention.
