Appalachian State University this week announced the creation of a new administrative position: vice provost for research.
On Monday, ASU advertised the job opening on an internet job bank on The Chronicle of Higher Education's website.
"The vice provost for research will be responsible for facilitating and expanding university-wide faculty and student based research/creative activities by obtaining necessary resources, developing administrative infrastructure, fostering intra-institutional and external collaborations and building sustainable funding opportunities," the job posting stated.
"An early responsibility will be to facilitate the transition of The Graduate School and The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs into separate units," it added.
According to the posting, application screenings will begin Dec. 21 and continue until the position is filled.
