Zero tolerance in college athletics
In the last few years this has spread to many college football programs. And recently, one of ASU's football players was finally thrown off the team after three violations.
I had to ask myself why it took three violations to dismiss this guy. The only way to deter this type of behavior is to tell every football player when he joins the team that the first arrest for anything means the player is dismissed from the team -- in other words, zero tolerance.
I would put this in writing and tell the players if they do not sign the contract, they are off the team.
It is time football players, no matter what their athletic ability, not be coddled or given special treatment. Most of them, if not all, are given four-year scholarships; this means they get a free ride in terms of finances to go to college.
The least they can do is keep their noses clean while in college.
