Voters act to recover country

I have been reading with interest your articles regarding the meetings of the Watauga County Board of Elections. In their first meeting, the Republican majority made it clear that they have learned the lessons being taught by our elected leaders in Washington.

Through the "me, me, me" attitude of both the Republicans and the Democrats in our nation's capital, they have managed to bring a country of more than 300 million people to a grinding halt with a Congress that accomplishes absolutely nothing. Now, our beautiful town of Boone and county of Watauga are traveling down that same path.

If we are to have any chance of surviving, we must convince our elected and appointed officials that they must work together to achieve any success. The attitude of "It's my way or the highway" must be replaced by the idea of working for the good of the whole town, county, state or nation. If they refuse to put their own self-serving interests aside for the benefit of all, then we must act at the ballot box. Regardless of your party affiliation, we must vote all incumbents out of office (and the comfort level they have grown accustomed to) and replace them with people who will listen to the will of the people who elected them.

It's up to you, the individual voter, to stand up for what is right and not be intimidated by the political parties, the PACs or the lobbyists. We can take our country back if you have the nerve.
