Job creation in stranglehold

I just finished reading Gov. Beverly Perdue's report of the potential creation of 400 jobs in North Carolina by Chiquita Brands Int'l headquarters moving to Charlotte. This is good news. However, to turn our state's economy around, it's like trying to stop a flood coming over the banks of the Watauga River with a wash towel. We need hundreds of thousands of jobs created.

To encourage massive job creation, this state needs to have a non-political review board look at all the job-restricting regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and other “business unfriendly” government agencies that are strangling North Carolina businesses.  Businesses do need some federal regulations to ensure fair competition and deal with monopolies and price fixing. However, we need to get back to the 10th Amendment of the Constitution by regulating education and the environment only at the local and state levels.

These huge agencies created by the federal government work like cancer — once created, they just grow and grow without control, become less effective and more expensive to taxpayers and strangle small businesses and the jobs they create.

Gov. Perdue, it's time to get serious about cutting out job-killing regulations so that North Carolina can encourage and attract the hundreds of entrepreneurs and businesses that it will take to turn the economy around.

You and our state legislature need to put pressure on your Democratic Party leadership in Washington to help bring our state's businesses to stay here, get back to growth again and for new businesses to be attracted to our state.
