Our View: High Country winter off and trotting
Thumbs-up: to Hospitality House's second Turkey Trot and the nearly 600 participants who supported it. More than 300 people ran the 5K race, and overall the event raised nearly $17,000 to aid the homeless, hungry and otherwise disadvantaged members of our community.
Thumbs-up: to let it snow, let it snow, let it snow -- at least at our higher elevations. For one slope already open and two others poised to open today on man-made snow, and the thousands who will make the trek to our mountain winter wonderland, the official start of the ski season has arrived.
Thumbs-down: to "what if they held a public meeting on the future of the county and no one showed?" Actually, that's nearly what happened at a recent Watauga County public meeting about a proposed Comprehensive Transportation Plan. Part of that plan includes a new freeway bypassing Boone ... and no one has anything to say?
