Our View: Helping hands reach near, far
But organization officials and staff are the first to note that only through the efforts of a network of more than 500,000 volunteers can this work be accomplished.
April, National Volunteer Month, is an especially appropriate time to recognize one of the largest volunteer efforts in the world. After all, it is only by those efforts that 133 million shoebox gifts have been delivered to children in more than 100 countries in the past 20 years, and that roofs have been replaced, families housed and wounds dressed from Indiana to Indonesia.
Through its volunteer network assisting in myriad areas -- from Operation Christmas Child, U.S. disaster relief or construction projects -- Samaritan's Purse is an inspiration to each of us to give back to our community in ways small and big.
