Our View: Germ warfare begins at home
It's little surprise that Appalachian Regional Healthcare Systems is now confirming cases of influenza in Watauga Country -- 'tis the season not only for the holidays, but for flu germs to spread from person to person through coughing, sneezing and physical contact.
It's also the season to follow the common sense health habits our mothers taught us once upon a time. Avoiding contact with sick persons, covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze -- and properly disposing of that tissue -- and limiting your own contact with others when you are sick will go a long way in creating a healthier winter environment.
And isn't that healthy winter environment what it's all about in the High Country? After all, it's tough to get up on the slopes when you're down with the flu.
