Our View: Fulfillment of dreams now and tomorrow

Thumbs-up: to a dream fulfilled. When former Appalachian State University offensive tackle Daniel Kilgore plays in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3, he will reach the dream that for many begins in pee-wee football camps across the nation. Most of those aspiring athletes -- and more than a few professionals -- will never reach this level of sport. But all of us in the High Country can live it vicariously as we join Kilgore in New Orleans.

Thumbs-up: to increased health-care options with the opening of two low-cost clinics in the High Country. High Country Community Health has already begun seeing patients in Watauga and Avery counties -- only seven weeks after learning the organization cemented its status as a federally qualified health center.

Thumbs-up: to the hundreds of Appalachian State University students who took a "day on" when many took a day off in honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday. More than 200 students took the MKL Challenge and assisted 17 local nonprofits and organizations during the holiday.
