Our View: Acts of kindness
During the past week, a few of Santa's elves, representing an organization that wishes to remain anonymous, have been busy scurrying about the county and handing out checks to worthy organizations.
We at the Watauga Democrat know this because some of those recipients have emailed or called to let us know privately about the good works that are ongoing today. For example, this note from a local nonprofit that feeds the hungry: "Yesterday ... stopped by with a $1,000 check. ... They said they had extra money to give this year and that after reading (a story about the nonprofit in the Watauga Democrat), they wanted to donate to (us)."
We respect this donor's right to privacy, and this editorial is not to give praise where none is desired. It is instead intended to illustrate an example and to take the opportunity to thank all the private individual and corporate donors who make the High Country a better place for each of us -- and especially for those in need of a helping hand.
