Watauga Humane Society holds "I Have a Dream" adoption special
by Christina Call
All of the dogs and cats at the Watauga Humane Society have the same dream -- to find their forever homes.
To make this dream possible, the Watauga Humane Society is having an "I Have a Dream Special" now through Feb. 12. All dogs and cats 6 months or older are available for a special $50 adoption fee.
Adoption fees are typically $95 for dogs and $75 for cats. The special allows people to save money and adopt at a low price.
The adoption fee includes shots given up to the date of adoption, microchipping (so that a lost pet can be reunited with their owner) and spay or neuter surgery.
These weeks have been set aside to increase awareness of the ongoing need for safe, loving and healthy homes for animals at the Humane Society.
"We just hope that folks will come out because our dogs and cats need homes; that is why they are here in the first place," Gilda Gordon, Watauga Humane Society administrative assistant, said. "People can make a difference in the lives of the animals with this special."
The Park Foundation, the Bob and Carol Spector Foundation and the Ryan Newman Foundation have made the "I Have a Dream" special possible.
These grants allow the Humane Society to reduce its prices so it can find the animals homes, which makes rooms for more animals in the shelter.
"People should take advantage of this offer," Gordon said. "Our prices will go back up -- we don't always have the funds to do this. With these grants, we are able to have adoption at a reduced rate."
