Tweetsie to welcome Dora the Explorer
From June 21 to 23, fans of Nickelodeon's "Dora the Explorer" and "Go, Diego, Go!" will have the chance to meet their favorite characters at Blowing Rock's Wild West theme park.
The Nickelodeon costumed characters will appear daily and will be available to interact and take photos with their fans throughout the weekend.
Dora is a 7-year-old Latina heroine whose adventures take place in an imaginative, tropical world filled with jungles, beaches and rainforests.
Diego Marquez, Dora's cousin, is an 8-year-old animal rescuer and nature expert who uses scientific thinking and investigative strategies to help animals in trouble.
Dora and Diego explore their world just as preschoolers do everyday, and their television shows actively engage children through a variety of learning techniques. In addition, daily appearances are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Afterward, the characters will be available for pictures with guests.
This year marks "Dora the Explorer's" 10th anniversary, which Nickelodeon will celebrate throughout the year with "Beyond the Backpack," a multiplatform pro-social campaign that champions overall school readiness for preschoolers. The program includes several Dora-themed television specials, an original documentary and a dedicated website at http://www.doratheexplorer.com.
Park guests can enjoy this special event in addition to Tweetsie's daily lineup of family fun, including a ride aboard Tweetsie's historic steam-powered locomotive, panning for gold at Miner's Mountain, visiting the animal residents of Deer Park Zoo, strolling down the streets of Tweetsie Railroad's very own Western town and more. Tweetsie Railroad is open seven days a week through Aug. 18.
The park returns to the weekend schedule from Aug. 19 through Nov. 3, including Labor Day Monday. The 2013 season ends Sunday, Nov. 3. The park's regular hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but will be open until 9 p.m. July 4 for the Fireworks Extravaganza and July 6, 13, 20 and 27 for Cool Summer Nights.
Daily admission to Tweetsie Railroad is $37 for adults and $23 for children ages 3 through 12. Children 2 and younger are admitted free. The Ghost Train Halloween Festival will take place Friday and Saturday nights Sept. 27 through Nov. 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., when admission is $28 for adults and children.
