Summer 4-H camp enrollment opens
by Staff Reports
Enrollment for 4-H Camp for summer 2013 is now open.
Watauga County 4-H will escort a group of 8- to 14-year-old campers to Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Rockingham County from July 7-12.
Kids can participate in activities such as canoeing, arts and crafts, nature exploration, horseback riding, swimming, archery, climbing and team challenges. Evening activities include water games, talent show and a dance.
Campers do not have to be members of the 4-H program. The 4-H Center offers a program staff and cabin counselors trained to work with youth. They maintain a ratio of 8 campers to each counselor.
To guarantee a spot, parents must register by Jan. 28 and pay a $100 nonrefundable deposit. The remaining $360 will be due by July 1. The fee covers meals, lodging, T-shirt, transportation and more. Some scholarship money is available.
Special programs are available for 12- to 14-year-olds for another $65.
Registration will continue beyond Jan. 29, but spaces may not be guaranteed. Contact the 4-H office at (828) 264-3061 or visit http://www.bjpenn4h.org for more information.
