School supplies drive under way
by Staff Reports
Local law enforcement agencies are working together to gather school supplies for Watauga County Schools students who still lack final items.
Officer Jake Harkey of the Boone Police Department said he learned about the remaining need from his wife, a teacher at Mabel School.
Starting Monday through Sept. 30, donation boxes will be set up at the Boone Police Department, Blowing Rock Police Department, ASU Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff's Office and Old Navy in the Boone Mall to collect supplies.
Standard school supplies such as pencils, crayons, glue and notebooks are appreciated, as well as children's books, first aid supplies, tissues, book bags and cleaning supplies such as disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer.
The supplies will be distributed to children in need throughout Watauga County Schools, Harkey said.
