Sarrah Kitchell won first place

Valle Crucis School first-grader Sarrah Kitchell won first place in the K-2 division of the Western Regional Math Fair of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics held at Appalachian State University March 22. Her mother, Megan Hayes, said, 'We can't begin to tell you how excited she was.' Sarrah will now go to the state competition in May.

Hayes praised Sarrah's first- grade teacher Laura Carter for her support and 'the incredible amount of extra time and dedication she put into helping Sarrah prepare and execute her project.' Hayes also thanked Valle Crucis kindergarten teacher Kris Hagaman, whose work with Sarrah last year 'prepared her for the success she had this year.'
