Samaritan's Purse to host job fair
by Sarah Ann Schultz
Samaritan's Purse will host an open house Job Fair in search of seasonal employees at its Boone Operation Christmas Child Processing Center on Oct. 8.
The open house Job Fair will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center, located at 801 Bamboo Road in Boone. No appointment is necessary. Applicants are asked to complete an online application before coming to the job fair.
Operation Christmas Child delivers gifts to more than 9 million children in more than 100 countries. Individuals fill shoeboxes with school supplies, toys and personal hygiene items. The shoeboxes are sorted and inspected at six processing centers across the United States, then shipped to developing countries.
"This is a great opportunity for Christians who want to make a positive impact in the lives of hurting children all over the world," said Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan's Purse, in a statement. "Working with Operation Christmas Child during the holiday season is a way to stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas -- the greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ."
Since Operation Christmas Child was created in 1993, more than 100 million shoeboxes have been processed and delivered to children around the globe. This year, more than half a million shoeboxes are expected to come through the Boone center alone.
This year, Samaritan's Purse is seeking around 75 employees, a smaller number than it has hired in years past. The organization has been able to expedite the process in the warehouse and needs less employees than they have in the past.
Samaritan's Purse is looking for team coaches, volunteer trainers, dockworkers, forklift operations and truck drivers. Work begins mid-November and continues into mid-December. Day and evening shifts are available. Applicants must be willing to work 40 plus hours per week, including Saturdays, and be able to work the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.
As with all permanent employees at Samaritan's Purse, seasonal employees are required to adhere to the organization's statement of faith.
Samaritan's Purse is an international Christian relief and evangelism organization that works in more than 100 countries around the world, providing aid in the name of Jesus Christ to victims of disaster, war, disease, famine, poverty and persecution. Operation Christmas Child is one of the organization's largest projects.
"It's not just about giving them a gift," said Karina Peterson, Samaritan's Purse's media relations coordinator. "It's about sharing God's love with them."
