SKYWARN classes to be offered March 5

The National Weather Service will offer two SKYWARN classes in Boone on Tuesday to train residents to become official weather spotters.
Forecaster Kris Mattarochia and warning coordination meteorologist Phil Hysell will lead the seminars at Appalachian State University.
The first class will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
March 5 at the Plemmons Student Union 201B Table Rock Room.
The second class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 5 at the Plemmons Student Union 201A Price Lake Room.
Anyone is welcome to learn about: the basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, how to report information and basic severe weather safety.
