Real. Good. Party! at Harvest House on April 4 to benefit F.A.R.M. Cafe

F.A.R.M. (Feed All Regardless of Means) Cafe will hold its next fundraiser from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, April 4.

Harvest House in Boone will host the event that will include food, live music, dancing, raffles, and auctions.

A ticket to "Real. Good. Party!" will include entry to the event, food and drinks, including beer provided by local sponsor Appalachian Mountain Brewery. Tickets are $40 for one and $75 for a couple. All proceeds will benefit F.A.R.M. Cafe's mission to build a healthy and inclusive community.

Those who enjoy a meal at the cafe are welcome to donate, pay what they can, or volunteer in return for a meal. F.A.R.M Cafe has served more than 36,000 meals since its opening in May 2012, and annually, 20 percent of guests volunteer for their meal or receive it at little to no cost. The cafe's daily lunch includes a variety of soup, entrees, sides, salad, drinks and desserts.

At its location at 617 W. King St., the cafe serves an average of 75 meals each day and has become a popular place for a variety of individuals in the local community to come together.

F.A.R.M. Cafe's vision is to end hunger in the High Country, one meal at a time. Because the cafe is a nonprofit corporation, it is only with the support from the community, combined with the donations from guests and volunteers, that this extraordinary restaurant is possible, cafe officials said.

The USDA defines food insecurity as insufficient access to food due to a lack of money or adequate resources. According to the 2013 Map the Meal Gap Study (feedingamerica.org/hunger-in-america/hunger-studies/map-the-meal-gap.aspx) 38,000, or 27 percent, of children in Western North Carolina live in households that are food insecure. North Carolina's overall food insecurity rate currently exceeds 19 percent.

Attendance at the April 4 event, "Real. Good. Party," will not only show support for F.A.R.M. Cafe as well as the local community, officials said. Boone's own Soul Benefactor will perform live music throughout the event. In addition, there will be a live auction, silent auction and raffle that guests will be able to participate in.

Tickets for "Real. Good. Party!" can be purchased at F.A.R.M. Cafe during the weekly hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those who are unable to attend the event are welcome to donate, stop by and eat a meal or register to volunteer at the cafe.
