Hospitality House hosting fish fry and open house for Wilkes connection
Serving Wilkes County for nearly 20 years, Hospitality House is hosting a Down Home Fish Fry and open house to thank the Wilkes County community for its ongoing support.
The Boone organizers are inviting local Watauga residents to join them in welcoming their adjoining county neighbors to the free community event.
"It is a privilege to serve Wilkes County," said Tina Krause, incoming Hospitality House executive director and Wilkes County resident. "I am acutely aware of the issues facing low-income and at-risk families in Wilkes and am so happy that we are able to provide services to them as one of our four primary counties."
In 2013, Hospitality House provided 2,134 nights of shelter, food and services to Wilkes County's homeless population.
Long-term success is made possible through the Transitional Housing, Family Housing and Supportive Housing programs that Hospitality House offers, Krause said.
The Down Home Fish Fry includes an all-day open house, with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The North Wilkesboro Mountain View Baptist Church youth group and the Watauga Branch of the NAACP will be helping with the meals.
Churches, individuals and civic groups are encouraged to come any time before lunch or dinner and take a tour of the Hospitality House facilities and multiple gardens, organizers said.
"We are inviting everyone local -- Watauga, Wilkes and otherwise -- to join us," Krause said. "Whether you are a current supporter, past supporter or just curious about what we do, we welcome you all to come break bread and eat fish with us."
Hospitality House is located at 338 Brook Hollow Road in Boone, just off Bamboo Road.
