Hicks named SBTDC regional center director
The center which also has a Hickory office, serves 14 counties in the foothills of North Carolina.
He replaces Bill Parrish, who retired last fall after serving 21 years as director.
A graduate of Elon University, Hicks has 27 years of experience in business, including commercial lending with major regional banks, management of a family business, as well as purchasing and managing a multimillion dollar grading and utility contractor in Winston-Salem.
For the past several years, he has been a general business counselor at the Appalachian-based SBTDC working with small- and mid-size businesses.
Hicks has served on the Catawba County Chamber Edison Business Competition committee, Lincoln Entrepreneurship Growth Group Advisory Board and as a panelist for the CVCC Funding Summit.
He has facilitated strategic planning retreats, as well as contributed as a featured speaker on Small Business Funding Options for CVCC and Burke County Chamber Lunch and Learn.
In addition, he has worked with Appalachian's Walker College of Business in mentoring and pairing MBA students with businesses in the region for student practicums.
The SBTDC is a statewide business advisory service of The University of North Carolina system administered by N.C. State University and operated in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
