Green Valley pre-K learns about recycling
by Staff Reports
Ranger Kelly Safley of Elk Knob State Park visited pre-kindergarten students at Green Valley School on Wednesday to talk about recycling.
Safley presented objects that many might throw away, encouraging the students to think of alternatives. She also talked about protecting nature after reading a story called "Litter Red Riding Hood."
In small groups, children also learned about examples of "nature's recyclers," which include slugs, mushrooms, earthworms, millipedes and more.
"In our class, we are continuing to emphasize respect for our environment," said pre-K teacher Beckie Fuller. "We have been reusing recyclable materials for art creations, math and dramatic play. Outside, we have been using our recycling can for our water cups and also teaching the children to care for critters that we discover on the playground."
