Fork It Over - Food for Funds
by Sherrie Norris
On Thursday, June 5, several local restaurateurs will showcase some of their specialty menu items at what promises to be a new and exciting food-tasting event in Boone.
With proceeds from the 2014 fundraiser benefitting High Country United Way, "Fork it Over, Food for Funds" will take place from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the fifth- floor club lounge of the athletics center at Appalachian State University's Kidd Brewer Stadium.
"Fork it Over" is a spin-off of the annual Celebrity Serve that raised more than $170,000 for various organizations since its first event for Hospice of Watauga County nearly a decade ago.
Choosing to switch out the one-day multi-location celebration featuring noted personalities as servers, the CS committee, headed up Jack Pepper, decided to take the fundraiser to a new level this year.
Ticket holders will have the unique opportunity to sample an array of delectable food items in one venue provided by the following local restaurants: Bandana's, Char, Dan'l Boone Inn, Makoto's, Pepper's, Red Onion, Sunrise, TApp Room, The Rock Sports Bar, The Table at Crestwood and Town Tavern.
Live entertainment will be provided by The King Bees.
From the beginning, it has been the mission of the founding CS committee to support those organizations that enhance the quality of life for the High Country community, in general -- and it's something it plans to continue.
Co-hosted by Boone Independent Restaurants, proceeds for the 2014 event will benefit numerous programs and partnerships though our local United Way.
If you enjoyed participating in Celebrity Serve, you're going to love "Fork it Over, Foods For Fun."
Mark your calendars now and plan to join the fun on June 5.
Tickets are $35 and may be purchased online at http://www.highcountyunitedway.org.
