Firefighters featured in 'Wake Up Watauga'

A handful of local firefighters were featured Friday as part of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Wake Up Watauga,” a periodic series that highlights local individuals and issues.

The event, held at the Dan’l Boone Inn and broadcast on WATA, included breakfast for the firefighters, chamber members and community members as well as seasonal safety tips.

Boone Fire Marshal Ronnie Marsh, Boone Fire Chief Jimmy Isaacs and Cove Creek Fire Chief Terry Combs were among those sharing safety reminders on winter heating, Christmas trees and other hazards.

“I think we all take for granted that, at a moment’s notice, we might need your services,” Town Council member Lynne Mason said.

Chamber president Dan Meyer said they hope to recognize first responders and law enforcement at future “Wake Up Watauga” sessions.

“We just want to acknowledge the public servants,” Meyer said.
