Farm to table dinner fundraiser April 6

Six premier chefs in the High Country will prepare six courses for a farm-to-table dinner at 4 p.m. on April 6 -- a fundraiser for New River Growers.


The dinner will be held at The New Public House in Blowing Rock and will feature chefs Andrew Long of Mast Farm Inn, Michael Foreman of The New Public House, John Dean of Restaurant G at Gideon Ridge, Edwin Bloodworth of The Gamekeeper, Sam Ratchford of Vidalia and Nate Curtis of Rowland's at Westglow Spa.


The chefs will use ingredients harvested within a 100-mile radius of New River Growers.


Tickets are $100 and can be purchased at http://www.newrivergrowers.com/#!fund-raising/ca1v. Eighty tickets will be sold. Patrons will have opportunities to meet the chefs and local farmers.


New River Growers is a farmer's cooperative of the High Country selling produce, meat, cheese and eggs from more than 70 local farms.


Founded in 1998 to help farmers transition from tobacco, the cooperative has grown into an active operation that sells local food to restaurants and retailers throughout the High Country and the Asheville area.  


The fundraiser will help support the cooperative's efforts following a season of record rainfall and poor growing conditions. The organization also recently encountered an unexpected engine replacement for its delivery truck.
