Downtown Boone features Christmas Story Walk
by Staff Reports
The Downtown Boone Development Association and the Watauga County Public Library are once again partnering to bring a special Christmas Story Walk to Downtown Boone for the holiday season.
The Downtown Boone Christmas Story Walk began Nov. 23 and runs through Jan. 2. The Story Walk starts at the Watauga County Library, and participants are encouraged to park at the library or at the parking meters on Queen Street.
The children's storybook for the Downtown Boone Christmas Story Walk is "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies" by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. The Story Walk starts at the library and moves down Depot Street, back up to West King Street and concludes at Melanie's on the corner of Depot and West King Street.
Participants are encouraged to visit Youth Services at the library to pick up a map and answer sheet to the questions on the storybook pages. If the library is not open, families can still enjoy the Story Walk by following the directional signs attached to the storybook pages.
"The idea is to provide our visitors to downtown Boone with an activity the whole family can enjoy while at the same time enjoying our wonderful variety of shops, restaurants and services," said Boone Downtown Coordinator Virginia Falck. "Downtown Story Walk provides children an opportunity to read and walk, while parents might discover a special shop or restaurant they may have not noticed on a previous visit to downtown Boone."
