DBDA announces First Friday, Fourth of July activities
by Anna Oakes
The Downtown Boone Development Association recently announced that First Friday activities have been moved to Friday, July 11, as a result of Fourth of July activities on the first Friday of the month.
The annual Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 4, on King Street in downtown Boone. The theme is "Life in Boone...How Sweet It Is!" and features Sonny and Bricca Sweet as grand marshals. Following the parade, the public is invited to enjoy cake, watermelon and live music on the Jones House lawn following the parade.
The Concerts at the Jones House performance will begin at 1 p.m. July 4, featuring Fat Face Band and Liz Hayes and Common Threads.
The DBDA board on Tuesday approved a $1,000 budget allocation for updates to the downtown map and way-finding signs. Boone Downtown Coordinator Virginia Falck said the town is researching the costs of replacing the bulbs in downtown holiday decorations with "warm" LED lights.
Board members discussed the need to better explain the details of the DBDA's recently restored fašade improvement grant program, as the DBDA has only received one application thus far for the funding.
The board also approved a $1,000 allocation to the Watauga Archival Consortium to help purchase equipment for archiving historic photos and documents. The group recently had 300 historic photos scanned for display at http://www.digitalnc.org.
