College Dems to announce 'I Vote' campaign
by Anna Oakes
The Appalachian State University College Democrats will officially kick off an "I Vote" campaign with a day of action and press conference Wednesday.
The I Vote campaign -- a response to what organizers call the General Assembly's "war on students" -- is an on-campus partnership with the Watauga County Democratic Party to make students' voices heard on the local and state level.
The press conference begins at 11 a.m. on Sanford Mall on the ASU campus.
Students from College Democrats, local elected officials and officers of the Watauga County Democratic Party will be on hand to announce campaign plans.
Local Democrats have expressed opposition to a number of measures proposed by bills in the state legislature, including reducing the early voting period, eliminating same-day voter registration during the early voting period and barring parents from listing children as dependents for tax deductions if the children register to vote at a different address.
