Boone mourns death of J.F. (Peck) Garner II

The Boone community and surrounding areas are mourning the death of beloved dermatologist, J.F. (Peck) Garner II, who lost his long hard-fought battle with cancer Saturday morning at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

With a long-time affiliation at Boone Dermatology Clinic in Boone, Garner played a significant role in the community not only through his medical practice, but also through his talent as a musician and as a friend to many.

With specialties in general dermatology and dermatologic surgery, Garner was an alumnus of Samford University, where he received his undergraduate degree, followed by medical school at the University of South Alabama. He completed his internship at the University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital and completed his dermatology residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Garner was certified through the American Board of Dermatology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

His professional memberships included American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, International Dermoscopy Society, North Carolina Dermatology Association, American College of Phlebology, European Society for Cosmetic and Aesthetic Dermatology, American Medical Association and Watauga County Medical Society.

Austin and Barnes Funeral Home & Crematory of Boone is serving the Garner family. Funeral arrangements were not available as of presstime.
