Boone Bike to relocate in early 2014

After 10 years renting its location on Blowing Rock Road, Boone Bike and Touring will relocate next spring to a place of its own.
Owner Sarah Brown said she and the staff are eagerly anticipating the move to 774 E. King St., a building that started as a drug store and most recently housed Cedar Falls Realty.
Brown said she and her husband, Shaw Brown, always dreamed of finding a building to purchase for the bike shop, which was established in the late 1970s under other ownership.
"There's a lot of commercial real estate available in Boone, but nothing was exactly what we were looking for," she said.
The new spot offered everything they wanted, including more parking and access via a stoplight-controlled intersection. The shop adjoins a highway with bike lanes, allowing easy access through the high school area to the Greenway Trail and along U.S. 421 to the Rocky Knob Bike Park.
An extra 500 square feet also won't hurt.
The building is shared with Tuesday Morning, a discount home furnishings store, which will remain at the location.
Brown said they are excited to redesign the interior to include a showroom and repair shop, and they're working with Dirk Brown of Blue Mountain Metalworks to design a signature bike rack for the front entry.
She said the building purchase was finalized in May, and they're telling customers the move will likely occur in early 2014, perhaps as soon as January.
"Our season starts to slow down after Christmas, plus we have a lot of remodeling to do inside, so that will give us a couple months to get that all taken care of," Brown said.
