Bakery opens fundraising store to help aid WHS

If you're looking for gifts that also benefit local charities, Dewey's Bakery, maker of time-honored favorites, including Moravian sugar cake and Moravian cookies, has opened four seasonal stores in the region in partnership with nonprofit organizations.

A store at 151 Meadowview Drive, Boone, will benefit the Watauga High School Pioneer Band Boosters. The volunteers operating the store plan to open it daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For more information, call (828) 263-2030.

Dewey's opened its first fundraising store during the 2012 holiday season in partnership with the West Forsyth High School Marching Band Boosters.

The success of the store allowed the boosters to make a down payment on new uniforms for the marching band, and inspired Dewey's to partner with more groups this year.

Gift items available in the stores will include Dewey's "Tins Under $10," featuring Chocolate Dipped Mint Moravian Cookies, Sugar and Spice Moravian Cookies, Red and Green Holiday Shaped Moravian Sugar Cookies  and Bacon Cheddar Cheese Straws.

The "Gifts Under $5" collection includes gift boxes of Chocolate Enrobed Moravian Sugar Cookies cut into festive holiday shapes; Pumpkin Spice Shortbread Cookies; Butter Pecan Praline Shortbread Cookies; and classic Southern Cheese Straws in flavors, including classic cheddar, Parmesan artichoke garlic and cheddar with three chilis.

Each store will also sell quarts of Blue Ridge Peppermint Stick Ice Cream during the holiday season and other nonfood gift items such as Moravian Stars for $19.99.
