Like the annual Christmas ornament produced in Blowing Rock, the Watauga County Arts Council is creating an annual holiday keepsake with a new Christmas card competition.

Artist Steven Newhouse was selected for the winning design. The council called the design “a real treat for ASU fans since it features a snowman with a flourish of Mountaineer spirit.”

Artists submitted their designs and the final design was chosen through a “People’s Choice” selection process, the Arts Council said. Packages of cards with the winning design are available at the Arts Council gallery at 798 W. King St. and other venues as long as supplies last.
  

The gallery and gift shop is open every Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
