ArtSpace seeks picket-painters

by Staff Reports

The Blue Ridge ArtSpace is inviting community members to help replace its weatherworn picket fence with fresh, colorful pickets.

Residents are encouraged to visit New River Building Supply to purchase one or more fence pickets for $5 each. Painters are encouraged to represent themselves, their families, their interests or their love of the arts using any colors and creative designs they like.

The Blue Ridge ArtSpace is a family- and community-oriented center for the arts, and the staff reserves the right to reject any designs.

Painters should use exterior paint only and paint both sides of the picket. If the paint contains a primer, you do not need to prime before painting.

The Watauga County Arts Council also will host a picket-painting workshop at the Blue Ridge ArtSpace, located at 377 Shadowline Drive in Boone, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 27 for $20 per person. The cost includes a picket and access to paint, tools and other supplies.

To register, call the Arts Council at (828) 264-1789 or visit http://www.wataugaarts.org to register online. The registration deadline is July 24.

The bright new fence pickets will be installed at the Fabulous Fence Arts Festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 17. Guests will also enjoy music, arts activities and a chance to help paint a community barn quilt for the ArtSpace.
