by Anna Oakes
The Junaluska Heritage Association will host a special presentation by Tom Whyte of Appalachian State University on his research concerning the history and status of Boone's Jordan Councill Cemetery, an early African-American cemetery adjacent to the Old Boone Cemetery.
The cemetery is located next to ASU on Howard Street and was originally established for the slaves of the Councill Family, some of the original founders of the town of Boone.
The program will be held on Thursday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church on Church Street. The inclement weather date for the program is March 27 at 6:30 p.m.
Limited parking is available. If you are interested in attending the presentation, call 828-773-2540 for more information.
