CHARLESTON, S.C. — Appalachian State's women's basketball team overcame some cold shooting to take a 50-41 victory over College of Charleston at T.D. Arena Monday night.

Appalachian State's Anna Freeman led all scorers with 19 points, but finished 7-of-21 from the field. Freeman also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Both teams were able to grab several offensive rebounds since both teams missed a lot of shots. Appalachian State (17-3, 11-1 SoCon) was 17-of-69 from the field (24.6 percent), but grabbed 25 offensive rebounds.

College of Charleston (6-17, 5-9) did not fare much better from the field. The Cougars made 14-of-53 from the floor, but grabbed 16 offensive boards.

Appalachian State held a 54-45 overall edge over the Cougars in rebounding, and a 15-11 edge in second-chance points.

Even though Appalachian State made just 9-of-35 from the field in the first half, the biggest lead College of Charleston could build was six points. Appalachian State rallied to tie the game 21-21 at halftime, and then went on a 14-3 run in the 10 minutes of the second half to go in front 35-24.

Charleston scored the next seven points to pull to 35-31, but got no closer. Charleston got 14 points from Alyssa Fry, even though she made just 3-of-13 from the field. Frye made 6-of-10 from the foul line.

Appalachian State got nine points and eight rebounds from Kelsey Sharkey.

The Mountaineers host Wofford at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Holmes Center.
