Cashion earns academic honor

Appalachian State softball player Allie Cashion was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her outstanding performance in the classroom and on the field on Monday.
As a student, Cashion has compiled a 3.74 GPA as she is working towards a degree in Actuarial Science.
The junior outfielder from Waxhaw leads the Mountaineers in batting average (.408), runs batted in (50), home runs (16), slugging percentage (.872), walks (23) and on base percentage (.507). Cashion has tallied a team best 14 multi-RBI games, including three games with five RBIs and has recorded 15 multi-hit games.
Cashion and the rest of the Mountaineers are set to host the 2012 Southern Conference Softball Championships from May 9-12. The fifth-seeded Mountaineers take on No. 4 seed UNC Greensboro on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
