Arrowood named SoCon's Pitcher of the Month
by Staff Reports
Appalachian State's Ryan Arrowood was named the Southern Conference's Pitcher of the Month for the month of April Wednesday.
Arrowood won all four of his starts in April, posting a 1.61 earned run average and .212 opponents' batting average in the process. The right-handed senior did not allow more than two earned runs in any of his four starts, while working at least seven innings each time out.
In 28 innings of work, he surrendered just five earned runs while recording more strikeouts (26) than hits allowed (21).
With his spectacular April, Arrowood moved to 8-0 on the season. He lowered his ERA to 3.84 and his opponents' batting average to .252. With 25 career victories, he is just one win away from tying the school record of 26, set by former teammate Matt Andress from 2007-10.
Appalachian has swept the SoCon's Pitcher of the Month awards this season. Left-hander Rob Marcello earned the recognition in February and right-hander Seth Grant claimed the honor in March.
Arrowood will next take the mound in search of his record-tying 26th career win at 6 p.m. Friday, when first-place Appalachian (32-9, 16-5 SoCon) opens a three-game SoCon series versus UNC Greensboro at Smith Stadium.
