ASU women's basketball team raises $5,000

Appalachian State's women's basketball, in conjunction with the men's basketball team and the American Cancer Society, helped raise over $5,000 to in the fight against cancer over the weekend.

The Mountaineers, who designated their Feb. 11 game against UNC Greensboro as the annual "Play 4Kay" game, used a variety of fundraising initiatives to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the ACS.

Fans were asked to participate by purchasing "Play 4Kay" t-shirts, donating money online, participating in a silent auction and donating funds for every mile run by participants on treadmills during both the men's and women's games on Saturday.

In addition, the ASU women's basketball coaching staff donated a dollar for every student in attendance that wore pink to the game and sales from "Play 4Kay" items at http://Shop.GoASU.com were also included.

A total of $5,036.22 was raised during the weekend's events. The American Cancer Society received $1,400 in donations while donations to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund totaled $3,636.22.
