STATESBORO, Ga. — Courtney Freeman scored 19 points and Anna Freeman added 12 points to lead Appalachian State's women's basketball team to a 57-46 victory over host Georgia Southern Saturday at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Appalachian State (17-3, 11-1 SoCon) beat Georgia Southern (7-15, 3-10) at Hanner Fieldhouse for the first time since 2007. It's the second time the Mountaineers beat Georgia Southern this season.

Courtney Freeman made 3-of-7 from the field and added a foul shot to lead all scorers. She was named the Southern Conference's Student-Athlete of the Week last week.

Appalachian State shot 48.4 percent from the field in the first half and 43.9 percent for the game, but missed all five of its 3-point attempts. Appalachian State dominated the boards by outrebounding the Eagles 50-25, but committed 23 turnovers to Georgia Southern's 16.

Catherine Williams led the Mountaineers with 13 rebounds. Kelsey Sharkey added 10 boards.

Georgia Southern took a 17-10 lead in the first half, but the Mountaineers stormed back to take a 30-27 halftime lead. The Mountaineers never led by more than six points (34-28) for most of the rest of the game until two Williams foul shots put Appalachian State up 51-44 with 3:20 left.

The final score was Appalachian State's largest lead of the game. MiMi DuBose led Georgia Southern with 14 points, while Anna Claire Knight scored 10.

Appalachian State plays at College of Charleston Monday night.
