ASU women beat Elon 84-68

Appalachian State had four players score in double figures in its 84-68 victory over Elon in front of 321 at the Holmes Center Monday.
Maryah Sydnor led the Mountaineers in scoring with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Courtney Freeman added 14 points, while Anna Freeman added 13 points and Kelsey Sharkey scored 10.
It all helped Appalachian State (21-3, 15-1) stay on top of the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers play at Davidson on Saturday in a stretch run that includes games at home against Furman and road games at Chattanooga and Samford.
The Mountaineers roared out to a 15-0 lead that was capped by a Canesha Edwards layup with 14:49 left in the first half. The Mountaineers grabbed a 37-15 lead with 4:11 left in the first on two foul shots from Anna Freeman, and led 43-23 by halftime.
Elon eventually pull to within nine points three times in the second half, the final time being 77-68 on a Zora Stephenson jump shot. ASU closed out the game with a 7-0 run.
Former Freedom standout Ali Ford led the Phoenix (12-13, 8-8) in scoring with 11 points. Sam Coffer added 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Kelsey Evans also scored 10 points and grabbed eight boards.
